Second appointment dedicated to Kate Bush.
Let's start from her fifth studio album, "Hounds of Love", which marks her return to the music scene three years after "The Dreaming" (1982). The experimental nature of the previous album gives way to a more accessible art-pop, where the sounds of the Fairlight CMI synthesizer are combined with strings, traditional Irish instruments, and the unmistakable voice of the artist. The first single from the album is "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)", characterized by a compelling rhythm and an ethereal and seductive atmosphere that also emerges in the song's music video. Here, Kate Bush reflects on the difficulties between men and women in understanding each other: “If I only could, I’d make a deal with God, and I'd get Him to swap our places”: this is how the singer expresses her desire for a deeper and mutual empathy. In addition to reaching third place in the UK charts after its release, the song returned to the spotlight in 2022 thanks to the Netflix series "Stranger Things", which made it go viral by including it in its soundtrack, leading it to over a billion plays on Spotify.
Following "Running Up That Hill" are three more singles, "Cloudbusting", "Hounds of Love", and "The Big Sky". It is precisely with "Cloudbusting" that the first part of the album concludes and "The Ninth Wave" begins, a 7-track concept-suite in prog-rock style, centered around the story of a shipwreck survivor lost at sea who, in a desperate attempt to survive while waiting for rescue, experiences the temptation to surrender to death. Her journey crosses sometimes Celtic, sometimes oriental atmospheres, to finally reach awakening, rebirth, with "Hello Earth" and "The Morning Fog."
Today we invite you to listen to "Cloudbusting", the second single from the album, which with its orchestral arrangement stands out as one of the most intense and dreamy tracks in Kate Bush's discography.
