Third and final appointment of the week dedicated to Massive Attack.
2003 marks the release of "100th Window," the fourth studio album by Massive Attack, entirely produced by Robert Del Naja with Neil Davidge. This album represents a departure from their previous works, embracing a more electronic and atmospheric sound. Despite mixed reviews, the album reached the top of the UK charts and boasts collaborations with artists like Sinéad O'Connor and Horace Andy. In 2004, Massive Attack composed the soundtrack for the film "Danny the Dog" (also known as "Unleashed"), a project mainly curated by Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge. This experience allowed the duo to explore new musical territories, creating a soundtrack that diverged from the band’s typical sound. After a hiatus, Massive Attack returned to the scene in 2010 with "Heligoland," their fifth studio album. The album features a stellar cast of collaborators, including Damon Albarn from Blur, Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star, Guy Garvey from Elbow, and Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio. "Heligoland" received positive reviews, further solidifying the band's reputation as pioneers of trip hop. The following years saw Massive Attack continue to explore new musical and technological frontiers. In 2016, they released the EP "Ritual Spirit," rich with collaborations from artists like Tricky, Azekel, Roots Manuva, and Young Fathers. That same year, they launched the innovative app "Fantom," which allows users to remix their tracks in real-time using various inputs, such as geographic location and time of day. Today, Massive Attack remains an innovative force in the contemporary music scene, preserving their legacy and influencing new generations of artists. Their ability to reinvent themselves and experiment keeps them relevant and appreciated in the global music landscape.
