Latin Drumming

The Perform School of Music provides the opportunity to study with Gianluca Palmieri! An intense and comprehensive overview of the most important Latin rhythms.

From the collaboration between Perform School of music and Gianluca Palmieri, drum teacher at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, the Latin Drumming course is born. Taught by Gianluca Palmieri, the course introduces students to the main Latin rhythms, ranging from the Brazilian world to the more complex Afro-Cuban styles. The goal is to train the modern drummer in a field often overlooked yet of fundamental importance, especially considering the significant influence these rhythms have had and continue to have on the global music scene.

Moreover, Latin drumming offers a different and stimulating perspective on limb independence studies, encouraging the student to apply these concepts in musical terms and to develop their creative vein in new directions. The course is divided into multiple chapters, each involving the study of grooves and fundamental languages of each subgenre, concluding with the assignment of one or more pieces that allow for the immediate application of the concepts learned. The analyzed pieces range from classics of Latin music to contemporary compositions that are often influenced by other musical genres.

The entire course is supported by educational materials and live performances recorded by the instructor. An engaging class, led by Gianluca Palmieri, drumming professor at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. The program includes:

- Understanding various Brazilian and Afro-Cuban musical styles.
- Limb independence and study methods.
- A percussive approach before a drumming one, exploring how to reproduce percussion sounds with the drum kit.
- The creation of grooves.
- Understanding and analyzing the pieces that will be played in class at each meeting.
- The artists and bands that paved the way for various styles, creating true canons for generations to come.

The course covers:

- Bossa Nova.
- Samba and all its variations.
- Baiao and Partido Alto.
- Samba Funk and Samba Reggae.
- Cha cha, Bolero, Beguine.
- Cascara.
- Mambo.
- Songo.
- African 6/8.
