Musical Disclosure by Perform School of music Episode 21

Welcome back to the Perform School of Music column on modern music protagonists. We conclude the week on Van Halen.

Welcome back to our music information column!

Today, we conclude the week dedicated to Van Halen, starting from the late '90s and early 2000s, a period that was not very fortunate for the band. In fact, there were several changes in the role of the singer, with the more or less brief returns of David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, and a short, unfortunate stint with Gary Cherone, former Extreme member, with whom the band released the disappointing "Van Halen III" in 1998.

The 2000s brought more challenges than joys to Van Halen: Eddie struggled with alcohol, Michael Anthony was replaced by Eddie's son, Wolfgang, on bass, and even their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 didn't go entirely smoothly (only Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar attended). In 2011, the band entered the studio to record a new album with producer John Shanks. It marked the first collaboration with David Lee Roth since "1984" and featured Wolfgang Van Halen on bass. The new album, "A Different Kind of Truth," was released in 2012, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 and selling 395,000 copies in the first six months of 2012.

The band's activity became less frequent, and in 2020, the death of Eddie Van Halen marked the end of the historic group. To conclude the week dedicated to Van Halen, we offer you a perhaps less-known track from the album "1984," "Top Jimmy." Enjoy listening!
