Gianluca began playing drums at the age of 12 with the famous drum instructor Sergio di Natale, completing a 5-year educational program with him.
In 2006 he moved to Los Angeles, California to attend Musicians Institute Hollywood, where he had the chance to study with recognised instructors such as Chuck Silverman, Chuck Flores, Donny Gruendler, Robert Carson, Joel Taylor, Jeff Bowders and many more.
While attending the Musicians Institute, Gianluca won the prestigious Carlos Vega Memorial Scholarship & Drum off 2006 and the Outstanding Player Achievement Award.
In 2007 Gianluca became the official drummer of the guitar virtuoso Greg Howe, recording his instrumental albums Sound Proof (Tone Center 2008) and WHEELHOUSE (2017). After many international tours with this band, he also became drummer on the vocal project Maragold, with Greg Howe on guitar, Meghan Krauss on vocals and Kevin Vecchione on bass, releasing their first album in April 2013.
In 2019 Gianluca performed regularly with Kanye West SS and became the official drummer on tour and in the studio for the legendary Persian diva Googoosh. Gianluca Palmieri has also played and recorded with many international artists: Kanye West SS, Googoosh, Kamasi Washington, Greg Howe Band, Maragold, Rumer Willis, Evan Rachelwood, Reeve Carney, Shayna Steele, Down to the Bone, Kamran & Hooman, Bjorkestra, David Garfield, Frank Gambale, Stu Hamm, Jimmy Earl, Luis Conte, Jenifer Batten, David Cook, "For the Record" Live, Brandon Fields, Airto Moreira, Jeff Richman, Greg Adams, Dave Weiner, Walt Fowler, Lenny Castro, Mike Miller, Reggie Hamilton, Solis Strings Quartet, Marco Zurzolo Band, Zero Assoluto, Andrea Mingardi, etc.
Gianluca is currently a Drum Educator at the MUSICIANS INSTITUTE in Hollywood, CA, since 2013 and he teaches and runs some special courses for the Perform School of music.
