Matteo Garzaro, associate professor PERFORM School of music®
Matteo Garzaro is a drummer and instructor. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, he continued his professional development by studying to obtain an international qualification in Music Teaching. Simultaneously, he serves as an assistant instructor for the drum course at the Perform School of music in Turin.
He has performed in various musical projects, including Jelly Planets - with whom he released the EP "Eram" in 2016, Lover Boys Queen Tribute, The Surf Riders, and as a session musician with Igloo and Outcasters.
What to Expect
The Masterclass offers a creative approach to "Stick Control," one of the most important and widely used drumming methods ever written, by George Lawrence Stone in 1935. The book was designed to improve hand control and technique through a series of exercises for the snare drum. The first part of the book is based on sequences of single and double strokes, to which changes in rhythms and rudiments such as rolls and flams are gradually added. The author recommends performing each exercise correctly twenty times or for one minute. This masterclass is intended to draw inspiration from the exercises in the first part to use them as a basis for studying other topics. After a brief explanation of the topic, Matteo Garzaro will provide a demonstration of how to utilize the Stick Control exercises to delve into the chosen subject further. Then, participants will have the opportunity to play along with Matteo on a second drum kit, enabling them to immediately apply what they have learned. All participants will receive a document summarizing the topics covered, which range from double pedal, Latin rhythms, stick grips, sight-reading, swing, and much more.

The masterclass will be held on May 12th at the Birrificio Officine Ferroviarie, in Corso Sommeiller 12, Turin: a welcoming and stimulating place to immerse yourself in the world of music.
